Westmoreland County reported four new positive cases of covid-19 on Sunday and three new deaths, according to the state health department.

That brings the countywide total to 284 positive cases and 16 deaths, state data shows.

The state continues to report lower numbers of coronavirus deaths in the county compared to local data.

As of 1 a.m. Sunday, the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office had reported 20 confirmed covid-19 deaths, up one from the 19 it was previously reporting. The coroner said those deaths included 10 men and 10 women. The youngest person who died was 61 and the oldest was 109. The average age is 81. All occurred in people who are white.

State Health Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine has said that officials are working to resolve such apparent discrepancies in reporting happening around the state, particularly in counties that do not have their own local health department.

The state on Sunday announced an additional 276 new covid-19 deaths as a result of data gathering efforts, and stressed that a majority of the newly reported deaths did not occur overnight. As of Sunday afternoon the state was reporting 32,284 positive covid-19 cases among its 67 counties and 1,112 deaths.

As of Sunday, about 3,382 people in Westmoreland County had tested negative for the virus, according to state data.
