3 Westmoreland locations collecting prescription medication for Take Back Day
Three police departments in Westmoreland County will be participating in the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Take Back Day initiative on Saturday.
The departments will be collected unused, unwanted or expired prescription medication in the nationwide effort to prevent those pills from ending up in the wrong hands. The administration holds two Take Back Days each year.
During the April event, 469 tons of prescription medications were collected across the country, according to the agency.
On Saturday, medications can be dropped off at the following sites in the county:
• Penn Crossing Shopping Center in Penn Township from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., 2000 Penny Lane Drive, Jeannette.
• North Huntingdon Township municipal building, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., 11279 Center Hwy, North Huntingdon.
• Roadway Pharmacy from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., 6858 Route 711, Seward.
More than 5,900 tons of prescription medication has been collected in all 17 events over the last several years, the agency said. Other locations in the region collecting medications Saturday can be found at takebackday.dea.gov.
Numerous locations in the county, including pharmacies and hospitals, collect prescription medications year-round. Those can be found here.
