Health officials reported four new cases of the coronavirus in Westmoreland County on Wednesday as the state’s death tally continued to catch up with the coroner’s count.

The new cases bring the countywide total to 409, according to the state data.

County Coroner Ken Bacha was reporting 31 covid-19 deaths in the county as of Monday. The state’s numbers have lagged behind Bacha’s. He has said he’s alerted to infectious disease-related deaths before the state Department of Health.

Statewide, there have been 3,104 deaths from covid-19 and the case count has reached 51,845 with the addition of 888 new cases.

The state has reported 29 deaths in the county as of Wednesday, 26 of which it indicated were in long-term care facilities.

Across the county, there are 131 cases of the virus across nine nursing homes, state data shows. Thirty employees in those facilities have also contracted the virus.
