Four new North Huntingdon police officers were sworn into duty this week by a Westmoreland County judge.

Judge Meagan Bilik-DeFazio swore in Todd Cappetta, Shane Rebel, John Popovich and Jacob O’Brian-Rice as the police department’s new officers on Wednesday at the township commissioners meeting.

The officers were hired in June at a starting salary is $27.30 per hour, said Jeff Silka, township manager. With the hiring of the four new officers, North Huntingdon has 28 police officers, Silka said.

Their hiring comes on the heels of the promotions in April of sergeants Jay McCurdy and Gregory Arendas to lieutenant and officers Nicholas Dreistadt, William Kauffman and Justin Wardman to sergeant.
