Five people were injured, two seriously, Saturday in a head-on collision on Route 31 in South Huntingdon Township, according to fire officials.

Yukon Fire Chief Mark Kite Sr. said two drivers were flown to an undisclosed Pittsburgh hospital after the 3:10 p.m. wreck in the Mendon area of the township. Three others were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.

Kite said the accident occurred less than a half-hour after firefighters responded to a motorcycle wreck on nearby Dutch Hollow Road that resulted in a man being airlifted to a hospital.

In addition to Yukon, firefighters from Turkeytown, East Huntingdon, West Newton, New Stanton, Rostraver and Smithton responded as well as paramedics from Mutual Aid.

State police are investigating both accidents but details were not immediately available.
