Come out and play

The City of Greensburg Recreation Department will host the first of five classic backyard game sessions from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at Lynch Field, 520 New Alexandria Road, Greensburg.

People of all ages can drop in at any time during the event to play four corners. No registration is needed.

Subsequent game nights will feature hide ‘n seek tag, April 29; red rover, May 6; spud, May 13; and freeze tag, May 20.

Battlefield happenings

These events are scheduled Saturday at Bushy Run Battlefield, off of Route 993 in Penn Township:

Bushy Run Market, 8 a.m.-noon, with vendors offering a variety of wares, a small concession stand and free coffee and tea.

The open-air market will continue on the fourth Saturday of the month during the historic site’s 2022 season.

Art and Wine With Henry, 7-9 p.m., featuring works by regional artists and Seton Hill University students that will be available for purchase during the evening, along with art prints from John Buxton, Robert Griffing and Andrew Knez.

Some artists will be at the battlefield earlier in the day to create new works of art.

Hors d’oeuvres will be served, and each guest will receive two tickets for drinks from either Bushy Run Winery or Laurel Highlands Meadery.

The $25 ticket can be purchased through Friday at the battlefield visitor center or by searching Art and Wine With Henry on eventbrite.com.

Neighborly news

An exhibition exploring the life and work of Fred Rogers opens with a free reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Latrobe Art Center, 819 Ligonier St. A children’s activity will be available.

“Neighbor, 143: Love and Arts in the Neighborhood and the Natural World” is curated by students in the Fred Rogers Scholars Program at Saint Vincent College and features artifacts from the school’s Fred Rogers Archive.

The exhibition runs through May 21, when a closing event is planned for 3-5 p.m.

Simply brilliant

The Westmoreland Symphony will conclude its 53rd season with “Beethoven’s Brilliance,” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg.

The program will include Beethoven’s Mass in C, along with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Suite in G minor and Welsh-born classical composer Hilary Tann’s nature-inspired “With the Heather and Small Birds.”

Joining the symphony will be lyric tenor David Walton; Pittsburgh Opera resident artists Maire Therese Carmack, Veronique Filloux and Jeremy Harr; and the WSO Chamber Choir.

Tickets for are $18-$53. A link for the livestream is $20 per household.

They’ll make you smile

“If you wish you could have seen Chicago in the ’70s, you need to see Brass Metropolis.”

The eight-piece tribute band, which issues this teaser on its website, will take the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Lamp Theatre, 222 Main St., Irwin.

Brass Metropolis promises a song list spanning “Introduction” to “You’re the Inspiration,” along with all of Chicago’s intricate vocal harmonies and virtuosic horn and rhythm sections.

Tickets are $33.
