5 things to do in Westmoreland County: Dec. 17-19
‘Does Someone Need a Hug?’
“Elf the Musical” comes to the stage of the Geyer Performing Arts Center in Scottdale at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, courtesy of Actors and Artists of Fayette County.
A Sunday matinee is sold out.
Based on the 2003 movie starring Will Ferrell, the play follows the fortunes of Buddy the misfit elf as he journeys from the North Pole to New York City in search of his real father.
“Elf” is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.
Tickets are $15 at geyerpac.com.
It’s Still Rock ‘n Roll
David Clark’s “Songs in the Attic” brings the music of the Piano Man to The Palace Theatre in Greensburg at 8 p.m. Friday.
Long Island-based singer/pianist Clark has been performing the Billy Joel tribute show since 2011, delivering an evening that replicates Joel’s singing and playing. Clark even looks like Joel.
The set list includes all the Joel classics, including “Just The Way You Are,” New York State of Mind,” “You May Be Right” and, of course, “Piano Man.”
Tickets are $29-$49 at 724-836-8000 or thepalacetheatre.org.
Wonderful weekend
“It’s a Wonderful Life” takes over Irwin’s Lamp Theatre this weekend with a live play and a screening of the classic 1946 Christmas movie.
Stage Right is up first, presenting the “It’s a Wonderful Life Live Radio Play” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. The play-within-a-play finds a group of actors preparing to perform the script on the radio and then segues into the performance itself.
The production gets even more meta, as Stage Right actor Allen Mack, who plays the role of the actor playing George Bailey, is a native of Indiana, Pa. — just like the movie’s George Bailey, Jimmy Stewart.
A ticket is $26, or $15 for students.
The iconic movie screens at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, courtesy of John Gdula State Farm Insurance Agency. Tickets are available in Irwin at the agency, S&T Bank, Norwin Historical Society, McFeely’s Gourmet Chocolate, Feathers Artist Market and Gifts and Polarino’s Gift Basket World.
For information or tickets, call 724-367-4000 or visit lamptheatre.org.
