Sunset at the fort
Start the long holiday weekend with a Sunset Tour beginning at 7 p.m. Friday at Fort Ligonier.
Guests at the 21-and-older event will take a guided tour of the site’s French and Indian War museum and then enjoy a wine and cheese reception and lantern-lit stroll through the fortifications as the sun goes down.
Casual attire and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Fee is $35, or $30 for Fort Ligonier Association members.

Medieval merriment
Six weekends of medieval merriment begin Saturday with the opening of the annual Pittsburgh Renaissance Festival.
The sprawling South Huntingdon festival grounds recall a 16th-century village, complete with shops, artisan demonstrations, food stands, strolling performers and jousting ring.
The festival is open Saturdays and Sundays, and Labor Day, through Oct. 10. Each weekend has a theme with related special features. Opening weekend is Children’s Weekend, with a costume contest and those 12 and under entering free with purchase of a $22 adult ticket.

Back to nature
A family-friendly guided nature walk will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Powdermill Nature Reserve, off Route 381 near Rector.
Participants will gather at the atrium before heading out to explore the field station operated by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, which covers nearly 2,200 acres and includes mature second-growth forest, streams, small ponds and wetlands. Masks are required inside the nature center.
Space is limited; preregistration is required for the pay-what-you-wish activity.

Free love
Pour the Love 6, a free community art and music event, is set for 3-11 p.m. Saturday on the grounds of Four Seasons Brewing Co. in Latrobe.
Musical acts include HABATAT, Wine & Spirit, Luke Weltz Band, Brad Abbott and Kyle Green Band.
Food trucks and arts and crafts vendors will be on site.
No one under 21 is admitted inside the brewery unless accompanied by an adult.

Music in the park
The Hempfield Park Summer Concert Series will feature acoustic music by Jane West and Joe Golden at 6 p.m. Saturday in the park amphitheater, off Forbes Trail Road.
The Pittsburgh-area alternative/indie band Flying Blind will take the stage at 8 p.m.
Attendees should bring their own seats. Admission is free; concession stand will be open.
