Hang in there — Punxsutawney Phil failed to see his shadow, so spring is hot on our heels, right?

Meanwhile, another weekend has arrived, with enough music, theater, art and other entertainment on tap to make us venture out, cold and dark or not.

A toast to our first president

If you’re planning a party to celebrate George Washington’s birthday, get ready to fire up 288 candles on that cake.

Or, come to Fort Ligonier from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 as the historical site throws its own celebration as part of its winter History Happy Hour.

The evening will include light bites by Carol and Dave’s Roadhouse, spirits, live music by Tom Godfrey and Tara Yaney and an appearance by George Washington himself, as portrayed by Matt Gault, Fort Ligonier’s assistant director of education.

Visitors to Fort Ligonier, 200 S. Market St., can learn more about Washington’s early military career and see the rare artifacts only on exhibit there.

Tickets are $20.

Details: 724-238-9701 or RSVP to Candace Gross at cgross@fortligonier.org. Walk-ins welcome.

Once upon a time

A musical fantasy with fairy tale characters from well-loved Brothers Grimm and Charles Perrault stories, “Into the Woods” will be presented by the Saint Vincent College Players this weekend.

Audiences can see the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine musical at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21-22 and 2 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Performing Arts Center of the Robert S. Carey Student Center on the Unity campus.

General admission tickets can be purchased at the door prior to each show. Admission is $15, or $10 for non-Saint Vincent students and children 12 and under.
