5 things to do in Westmoreland County this weekend: March 6-8

Musicians of all levels of experience are invited to participate in Jeannette’s You Are Here gallery’s first Friday Acoustic Jam at 6:30 p.m. March 6.

Players of all acoustic instruments are welcome, along with keyboard instrumentalists. The monthly event will be free and is open to musicians and listeners over the age of 18.

Bridging 2 worlds with brass
River City Brass will perform “Celtic Connections IV” at 7:30 p.m. March 7 at The Palace Theatre, 21 W. Otterman St., Greensburg.
The audience will hear music from the old world and the new, with tunes from Ireland, Wales and Scotland alongside American country music. Expect to tap your toes along to familiar favorites including “Highland Cathedral,” “Two Irish Jigs” and “Country Roads.”
This concert will also feature the Carnegie Mellon Pipe and Drums. Tickets are $25-$31.

Mountain beach break
Your college days may be long in the rear view mirror, or a vacation in Florida or Mexico may not be in your undergrad budget.
Seven Springs Mountain Resort is throwing an early seasonal celebration of its own, with Spring Break Beach Party Weekend March 6 to 8.
The party kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with a techno DJ in the Foggy Goggle. The music returns at 10 a.m. Saturday on the Foggy Deck. A Lake Tahoe beach party will entertain visitors from noon to 4 p.m. The Flow Band will play reggae jams from 2 to 6 p.m. and a DJ will keep the tunes blasting until midnight.

Raise a cup to history
Fort Ligonier’s director of history and collections, Erica Nuckles, will host “Tea and Time Travel: Exploring Incredible Connections in the U.K.” on March 8.
Part of the site’s Speaker Series, the talk will be at 2 p.m. in the museum’s Center for History Education, 200 S. Market St. Nuckles recently toured the sites she will discuss, including London memorials to Lord John Ligonier and Gen. James Wolfe in Westminster Abbey.
Her Scottish visits included sites on Edinburgh’s Royal Mile with the Dunfermline Heritage Trust’s Frank Connelly. He also provided a tour of Dunfermline, located across the Firth of Forth, home to notable figures intimately connected to western Pennsylvania.
Walk-ins are welcome. Cost is $20.

Charter Day
Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society will sponsor the Penn Township site’s third annual Charter Day celebration on March 8.
Visitors can celebrate Pennsylvania’s 339th birthday from noon to 4 p.m. The day also will feature a basket raffle, wine tastings from Bushy Run Winery and refreshments.
It’s held to mark the day when England’s King Charles II granted a charter to William Penn in 1681.
Bushy Run is the site of a 1763 battle between British troops and Native Americans.
Included will be free museum admission, guided battlefield tours and historical re-enactor demonstrations.
