Get the Led Out will perform Led Zeppelin’s hits and deeper cuts during two performances this weekend at The Palace Theatre in Greensburg.

Depending on your holiday/travel plans, this week may have been the first full work week since sometime last year.

It’s not easy getting back into that full-time production mode. Luckily, the weekend looms for most of us. Get out and hear some music, get some culture, maybe even dare your friends (or yourself) to give an ice slide a try.

‘Led’ your hair down

Robert Plant may not be prowling the stage at The Palace Theatre but the songs may remain (somewhat) the same.

Get the Led Out returns to Greensburg for two shows, 8 p.m. Jan. 17 and 18. Promising a different set each night, the Led Zeppelin fans who make up the band delve into both the British band’s hits and deeper cuts.

The Philadelphia-based group consists of six veteran musicians offering a strong focus on Led Zeppelin’s early years, and include a special acoustic set with Zep favorites such as “Tangerine” and the “Battle of Evermore” performed in its original instrumentation.

Tickets are $28-$38 (and just about gone.)

Channeling balladeer, rocker

Irwin native Jay Gates is back in his hometown at The Lamp Theatrefor an 8 p.m. Jan. 18. show.

Wardrobe and hairstyle, along with instantly recognizable music, will clue in the audience as he adopts Rod Stewart’s swagger and Barry Manilow’s showmanship during “Jay Gates Impersonates.”

The Boston-based entertainer is an elementary school music teacher, when he’s not performing at the “Copa” or serenading “Maggie May.”

Tickets are $26.

Slip sliding in Somerset

Try not to slip, but definitely try out Somerset’s Fire & Ice Festival’s new ice slide, only one county away from Westmoreland.

The popular winter festival returns for its silver anniversary Jan. 17-19.

Enjoy highlights including Friday night’s fireworks’ show (6:30 p.m.), the festival’s top 50 ice sculpture favorites, musical performances, carriage rides, food trucks, a train display and scavenger hunt.

Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.

The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, will hold several events Jan. 18 and 19 in advance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday.

The celebration will begin with Audio Archives from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, a 90-minute jazz concert. A short interlude of conversation with the musicians and BOOM Concepts co-founder Thomas Agnew will explore how the Civil Rights Era’s sociopolitical issues involved, influenced and inspired Pittsburgh musicians.

At 1 p.m. Sunday, artists, performers and a DJ from 1 Hood Media will continue celebrating King’s legacy until 3 p.m.

An activity in the Center for Creative Connections will allow visitors to share their own dreams.

Registration is not required but is requested for the free events at the 221 N. Main St. museum.
