5 Westmoreland inmates charged with assault, conspiracy in jailhouse fight
Five inmates at the Westmoreland County Prison are facing assault and conspiracy charges in connection with a December fight in which a sixth inmate was injured, according to court papers.
The suspects are accused playing various roles in attacking a 21-year-old man in a cell, county detectives said.
Charged are: Korey Michael Fey, 23, of North Versailles; Zakire Anthony Garrett, 19, of Latrobe; William David Walters, 26, of New Kensington; Kedeem Orlando Warren, 29, of Pittsburgh’s North Side; and Khari Anthony Williams, 19, of Greensburg.
The injured inmate had facial fractures and was taken to AHN Forbes Hospital in Monroeville for treatment, according to court papers. He told investigators that at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 7, he was invited into a cell and four of the inmates — Fey, Garrett, Warren and Williams — attacked him.
Walters closed the door and stood outside so no one could see in, police said. A witness and surveillance video corroborated his account.
All five are charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and conspiracy.
Walters, Warren and William are being held at the jail on $50,000 bail. Preliminary hearings are set for Feb. 21. None of them had attorneys listed in online court papers. Fey and Garrett had not been arraigned.
