$65K stolen from Derry Township home
A man is accused of stealing $65,000 during a burglary at a Derry Township home last month, according to court papers.
Tyrus Martin, 21, who has addresses in Johnstown and Whitehall, on Monday was ordered held without bail after state police said he was illegally in possession of a gun when they arrested him over the weekend in connection with the incident.
Martin was charged Friday with burglary, theft, receiving stolen property and criminal trespass. Troopers said in court papers that he was driven to a Pandora Road home by a woman at 11 p.m. May 29 and broke in through a bedroom window.
He removed the cash from a lock box, exited the home and showed the female driver the money before they left, according to court papers. The following day, police said Martin asked the woman not to say anything about the incident.
It was unclear if troopers recovered the cash. Martin also is accused of taking several guns from the home. Police got an arrest warrant and conducted a traffic stop Saturday at 3 p.m. on Route 22 in Derry Township. Martin was found with a pistol in his pocket, according to court papers.
He was not permitted to have a firearm because of a previous delinquent adjudication in juvenile court, police said. He was arraigned on the burglary charges Sunday and a new complaint for weapons violations was filed Monday.
Martin was ordered held at the Westmoreland County Prison without bail in the gun case, according to online court records.
Martin did not have an attorney listed in online court records. A preliminary hearing is set for June 15.
