8 new coronavirus cases reported in Westmoreland County, bringing total to 24

Coronavirus cases in Westmoreland County jumped to 24 on Thursday, according to state health officials, continuing a steady increase that began at the start of the week.

The eight new cases are part of a statewide increase of 560 case in one day. The statewide total now stands at 1,687, according to state data.

Sixteen people have died, including one person in Butler County and two in Allegheny County.

Fayette County cases doubled to eight. Greene County now stands at three cases and Washington County at 12. Somerset remains at two after reporting its first cases on Tuesday night.

Indiana County recorded its first case of the virus, as did Susquehanna, Crawford and Blair counties.
