Eight Jeannette streets are set to be upgraded in 2024.

City council on Thursday accepted a $297,000 bid from W.D. Wright Contracting of Beaver for the annual street paving project. City engineer Ed Antonacci said nine contractors expressed interest in taking on the project, a first in his career.

“They were way under my estimation by nearly $100,000,” he said.

Antonacci attributed the level of interest to seeking bids early in the year while companies are looking for work.

“This came in under what we budgeted, so hopefully we’ll be able to maybe seal some roads or do some other road work with the shortfall of this bid,” said Councilman Chuck Highlands.

The roads scheduled for paving are:

• Sycamore Street from Lowry Avenue to Pine Street.

• Patterson Avenue from Baughman Avenue to Pasco Street.

• Pasco Street from Patterson Avenue to an alley.

• Wylie Avenue from Baughman Avenue to the dead end.

• Adams Avenue.

• Pine Street from Welty Avenue to Fairview Avenue

• Broad Street from Patterson Avenue to Pine Street

• Fairview Avenue from Pine Street to Prospect Street.
