Unity’s Victory Brinker might have been on a bigger stage last week when she wowed the judges during her appearance on “America’s Got Talent.”
But her smile was nearly as wide this week during an appearance at the Westmoreland County Courthouse when she was honored for her performance, which pushed the 9-year-old opera singer into the talent show’s finals this summer.
Brinker made show history when she became the first contestant to earn a four-way “golden buzzer” — when all four judges immediately advanced her to the final rounds of the talent competition. Brinker, who performed “Juliet’s Waltz” from the opera “Romeo et Juliette,” was showered in golden confetti after her song.
Brinker didn’t perform during her courthouse appearance but said she would return to tour the century-old building.
Commissioners honored her accomplishment.
“Victory Brinker, 9 years old, was always destined for stardom. As a toddler she waited for ‘America’s Got Talent’ to be on TV so she could sing along in front her parents and her family. She assured her family that one day she would be a contestant. The little girl who always wanted to be an opera singer made history and received the coveted ‘golden buzzer’ approval from all four judges,” according to the proclamation read by Commissioner Gina Cerilli Thrasher.
Brinker performed for the judges in April, and the show aired last week. She will perform in the show’s final rounds in August, with a projected air date in September.
Commissioners said Brinker was an inspiration.
“I am so happy to hear you are from Latrobe. It was one of the first things you said when you were on that stage, and I’m also from Latrobe, so you are my hometown girl,” Thrasher said.
