The princesses came out to play Tuesday night in Youngwood, and everyone was treated to a fun time without any dastardly tricks.
Girls ages 5 to 8 who played on the Scottdale Fast Pitch and the Youngwood Cheetahs enjoyed a spirited game of softball at a ball field on Newell Street while wearing their favorite costumes. Some girls added face paint to their costume, a variation of “putting on their game face” — a phrase some might learn if they pursue the sport long enough.
Carina Muchoney of Hunker, who was keeping score for the Youngwood Cheetahs coached by her husband, Mark Muchoney, said the girls were excited to dress in their Halloween costumes.
“This is a great way to end the season,” which was the first for many of the girls, said Muchoney, whose husband was dressed as Spider-Man as he stood in the infield.
“We’re a softball family on the field,” Carina Muchoney said.
The girls from both teams came dressed in a variety of costumes and others just had their faces painted, wearing a regular uniform. They managed to field the ball, throw it and bat while wearing their costumes.
“It’s about the girls having fun. That’s what is most important,” said Mark Sillaman of Latrobe, one of the coaches for the Scottdale team.
