Michael Jackson of Export, a retired first lieutenant with the U.S. Army Special Forces, was quick to distinguish Veterans Day from its sibling holiday, Memorial Day.

“It’s about service today,” Jackson said at an early Veterans Day ceremony Saturday morning at the Frank Kapusta American Legion post in Export. “We have around the world, young men and women from the United States who are actively serving their country.”

Jackson was part of a group of veterans from the White Valley AMVETS Post 85, local American Legions and VFWs that joined to host about a half-dozen Veterans Day ceremonies in Murrysville, Export and Delmont.

“It’s for whoever has served,” said Post 85 Second Vice Commander Paul Foresman. “Whether they served at war or not, we just thank our veterans. Today we’re going to honor all of them, including those who have passed away, the MIAs and KIAs.”
