A pair of Westmoreland County animal rescue groups Monday said they rescued pets from what one group described as “a house of horrors” in Penn Township.

Greensburg-based Ninth Life Rescue Center and North Huntington-based All But Furgotten said they combined efforts to save the animals from an undisclosed location in the township.

“Many seasoned rescuers said this is one of the worst they’ve seen,” Ninth Life Rescue Center wrote in a social media post.

Ninth Life had 23 cats and a ferret join them after being saved from their prior location.

The animals were found to be suffering from upper respiratory infections, urine burns, severe matting, flea infestation, flea dermatitis, dehydration, malnutrition, ear infections and conjunctivitis. Many will need eye removals, the rescue said, and one animal had both eyes rupture and is completely blind.

“These animals were on their 9th life, they really needed us,” Ninth Life wrote.

The animal rescue is seeking monetary donations for veterinary expenses and supplies, as caring for the rescued pets will be a “huge expense.”

They encouraged people to donate through social media, on PayPal at Ninthliferescue@outlook.com, on Venmo @NinthLife-RescueCenter or by mail at P.O. Box 74 Grapeville PA 15634.

People can make donations directly to the vet tab at Vought Veterinary Services at 724-433-1377.

Supplies to support the shelter can be purchased through Ninth Life’s Amazon wish list or Chewy wish list.
