Vendors will line South Pennsylvania Avenue in downtown Greensburg this weekend as part of the third annual Antiques on the Avenue event.

Scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, shoppers will have the opportunity to search through estate jewelry, furniture, primitives and vintage items offered by dealers who will set up between Pittsburgh and Fourth streets.

“We’re hoping to have a very successful event this year,” said Carol Marko, an organizer of the event. “We’re trying to grow it more and more.”

Marko, who organized the event alongside Amy Zimmerman, said the duo first came up with the idea for Antiques on the Avenue because it fits in with the concept of their Greensburg shop, The Shepherd’s Keeper at Kinderhook, which sells primitive antiques and home decor.

The event is also in collaboration with the Greensburg Business and Professional Association.

Marko noted that in the past the event has gotten a good turnout and is a way to get people downtown, which has seen new business growth over the past few years. Several businesses have opened along South Pennsylvania Avenue, including Wight Elephant Boutique, Invisible Man Brewing and the Trendy Bunny baby boutique.

“They put a brewery in there and they have a lot of shops in there and lot of really nice restaurants in Greensburg, too,” Marko said. “It’s nice to see.”

It was not immediately known how many vendors would be present at the event, but in previous years dealers came from Westmoreland, Allegheny and Cambria counties.

Food trucks will also set up at the event in addition to offerings from The Original Pie Shoppe of Laughlintown and The Cheesecake Connection of Youngwood.

Admission to the event is free.

“We’re trying to get downtown Greensburg like it used to be,” Marko said. “Way back when downtown Greensburg was a lot of fun.”
