Applications are being accepted for the Pennsylvania State Police’s upcoming Hill Impact Program in Westmoreland County.

The 14-week program is for 15- to 18-year-olds. It will be held Monday evenings 5:30-8 p.m. between Jan. 15 to April 8 at the state police Southwest Training Center in Unity, outside of Greensburg.

The free program allows teenagers to get a taste of what life would be like if they choose a career in law enforcement. They can learn about various elements of the job, such as the Pennsylvania crimes code, vehicle code, rules of criminal procedure, cold case investigations, traffic stops and field sobriety tests. It also included physical fitness and paramilitary discipline.

The first class of Western Pennsylvania cadets from Westmoreland and Fayette counties graduated from the program in January.

Anyone interested in applying can contact Trooper Abby Blazavich at 717-614-7971 or by email at ablazavich@pa.gov.
