Art show, blood drive part of Pitt-Greensburg Blue & Gold activities
Members of the public are invited to enjoy a showcase of regional art and are encouraged to roll up their sleeves to give the gift of life during the annual Blue & Gold Celebration this week at the Pitt-Greensburg campus.
The American Red Cross will conduct a public blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Smith Hall Lounge on the university campus at 150 Finoli Drive in Hempfield.
Participants can schedule a donation time by calling 1-800-733-2767 or by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor keyword HAIL2PITT. Walk-in donors will be welcomed but may have a longer wait time.
The Red Cross earlier this month announced a national blood shortage, with donations down by 25% from the needed level of collections.
Back for its seventh year, the Pitt-Greensburg art show is on display through Oct. 6 on the second floor of the Millstein Library. An artists reception, also open to the public, is set for 6 p.m. Friday, when winners in judged categories and a fan favorite will be announced.
More than 180 pieces by more than 50 regional artists were submitted for the show. Judges include: Christine Allaback, theater director at Pitt-Greensburg; Lynn Armbrust, a 1994 Pitt-Greensburg graduate and watercolorist who owns Greensburg Art Supply; Kristin Miller of the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, education coordinator and Ligionier site director.

Additional Blue & Gold events for Pitt-Greensburg alumni, students and families include a Friday night bonfire and a picnic and festival Saturday afternoon.
Pre-registration is required for a new event: Brunch with Bruiser, the campus Bobcat mascot, on Saturday morning.
