Gavel, a small mallet used by the presiding officer of a meeting, a judge, etc., usually to signal for attention or order in a courtroom.

A Penn Hills woman was ordered Monday to serve up to seven years in prison for her role in an 2022 incident at an East Huntingdon home that left one man injured.

Kristen Marie Kruel, 28, pleaded guilty to lesser charges of theft, receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence in connection with what police first said was an attempted shooting. According to investigators Kruel handed a weapon to a friend then urged him to shoot during a fight that erupted at the West Overton home in the early morning hours of Aug. 31, 2022.

Police said Kruel and two friends were asked to leave the home prior to the fight. Investigators said the gun she gave to Orlando Holt was not loaded. Holt pulled the trigger one time then loaded the weapon and as he and the victim fought over the gun that discharged during the altercation. The round struck the floor, according to court records.

The victim sustained head injuries in the fight, police said.

As part of the plea deal, prosecutors dismissed charges of attempted homicide, conspiracy, aggravated assault, robbery and possession of a prohibited firearm against Kruel.

Westmoreland County Common Pleas Court Judge Scott Mears ordered Kruel serve two to seven years in prison. That sentence will run concurrent to the three to seven year sentence Kruel is currently serving in connection with a stabbing outside The Filly Gentlemen’s Club along Motordrome Road near Interstate 70 in South Huntingdon.

In that case from 2018, Kruel previously pleaded guilty to lesser charges of aggravated assault while prosecutors dismissed one count of attempted homicide. Police said Kruel grabbed a knife and stabbed a man during an altercation after the club closed for the night.

According to court records, she was on parole for the assault case at the time of the East Huntingdon incident two years ago. Her parole has since been revoked.

Meanwhile, Holt, 34, of New Stanton, pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property, tampering with evidence, reckless endangerment and simple assault and was sentenced in June to 18 to 36 months in prison.
