Multiple dive and water rescue teams were responding to a reported drowning Saturday evening in South Huntingdon, a Westmoreland County emergency dispatcher said.

The drowning at Creek Falls on Jacobs Creek was reported around 5:45 p.m., the dispatcher said.

Limited information was available as of 8 p.m. A dispatcher said the incident was being treated as a drowning and responders were searching in the water for a male of unknown age.

According to a dispatcher, a person who called 911 reported seeing the person jump into the water but never get out.

No information was available from state police, who cited poor radio communications with the remote location on the border of Westmoreland and Fayette counties near Scottdale.

The incident scene is about 2.5 miles from Chaintown Road.

It is the latest in a series of incidents at Creek Falls.

In May 2020, NaDarrius W. Lundy, 15, of McKeesport drowned in the creek, authorities said. At that time, state police said the popular swimming spot is dangerous because of a strong current that can pull people beneath an underwater ledge.

That drowning was almost two years after authorities said Dylan Knopsnider, 21, of the Connellsville area died of asphyxiation from drowning after suffering a head injury when he went into the creek in 2018. His death was ruled an accident.

The body of Joseph Gralewski, 22, of Yukon was found in late May 2011. State police said he didn’t resurface after jumping off a rope swing into the water at Creek Falls. Strong currents and high water had hindered search efforts.
