St. Emma Monastery Christmas Shoppe began Thursday at the retreat center, 1001 Harvey Ave. in Hempfield.

Run by the Benedictine nuns who reside there, the three-day fundraiser features thousands of items: collectibles, housewares, home decor items, paintings, handmade crocheted and knitted pieces, glassware, jewelry, handmade candles and more.

Money raised from the sale will be used for everyday operations of the monastery and retreat center on 115 acres along Route 819.

The event also has eat-in or takeout food, including pierogies, chili, specialty breads and cookies.

The sale continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Items are reduced in price by 50% after 1 p.m. Saturday.
