A Blairsville man died Friday after a motorcycle crash in Derry Township, according to state police.

Christian F. Shugars, 22, was speeding on a Yamaha R6 on Pizza Barn Road at 10 a.m. when he lost control around a curve in the road. Troopers said the motorcycle hit gravel and collided with a utility pole guide wire on the opposite side of the road.

Police said he was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. He was pronounced dead about an hour after the crash as a result of blunt force injuries to the trunk and head, according to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner.

Shugars was not wearing a helmet, police said.
