A Blairsville man was seriously hurt in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning in Derry Township, according to state police.

Troopers said William A. Schietroma, 61, was driving a Hyundai Elantra north on Route 217 at 6:45 a.m. when he crossed over the center line and slammed into a Chevrolet Cobalt headed south. Firefighters spent about 20 minutes freeing him from the crash wreckage. He was flown by medical helicopter to Conemaugh Hospital for treatment of serious but not life threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the Chevy, Logan S. Seybold, 22, of Derry, was taken to Excela Health Latrobe Hospital for treatment of apparent minor injuries. The crash was reported just outside of Derry Borough near Chef Dato’s Table and Willow Street.
