Border Patrol nabs Mexican man convicted of sex offense in Indiana County

Romualdo G. Felipe, Mexican arrested illegally entering U.S. along Arizona border. Felipe was convicted in 2015 of sexual charges involving a girl younger than 13.

A Mexican man deported four years ago after he pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a minor in Indiana County, was arrested this week for attempting to illegally enter the country along a desolate section of the Arizona border, the U.S. Border Patrol said.

The suspect, Romualdo Gregorio Felipe, 48, was arrested by Border Patrol agents around 6:15 p.m Dec. 4 near Lukeville, Ariz., a Border Patrol spokesman said Friday. Felipe, a previously deported aggravated felon, faces a hearing on immigration violations, the spokesman said.

Felipe pled guilty in Indiana County Court in May 2015 to one misdemeanor count of indecent assault of a person younger than 13 years. He was sentenced to 125 days in jail and deported to Mexico later that year, the Border Patrol said.

Felipe was arrested on Dec. 30, 2014, on those charges, according to Indiana County court records.

All persons apprehended by the Border Patrol undergo criminal history checks using biometrics to ensure people with criminal histories are positively identified, the agency said.
