A boy was found Thursday after state police and Greensburg Salem School District officials said he walked away from James H. Metzgar Elementary School.

Troopers and firefighters were called to the Salem school just before 2 p.m. to search for the child. First responders called for drones to help with the search.

Police reported around 30 minutes later that he was found.

A message sent by the district to families of students at the building indicated the student left the school.

“As always, it is our priority to maintain the safety of our students and staff, and we are so grateful the student was found,” the message said.

Metzgar Elementary is in a rural area close to the intersection of Routes 119 and 22.
