Motorists driving on Interstate 70 over the Youghiogheny River northwest of Smithton can expect delays Thursday as crews complete a bridge inspection, according to PennDOT.

The inspection will trigger right-lane closures on the Smithton High Level Bridge, which carries the interstate across the Youghiogheny River, connecting Rostraver with South Huntingdon Township, and over the CSX Corp. rail line that runs along the river. For safety reasons, the inspection must be completed between about 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., according to PennDOT.

The lane closure will first affect eastbound traffic and then westbound traffic, as the work progresses. The project, and related lane restrictions, could continue into Friday.

The inspection will complete an effort that began in September and was delayed pending coordination with CSX officials, PennDOT said.
