A shaft of sunlight beams down through the forest canopy upon re-enactor Mark Somers of Robinson, Indiana County, on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at Bushy Run Battlefield in Penn Township as he walks off the battlefield of the re-enactment for the 256th Anniversary of the Battle of Bushy Run.

Bushy Run Battlefield will celebrate Pennsylvania’s 339th birthday with free admission.

From noon to 4 p.m. March 8, the museum will offer free tours and historical demonstrations, courtesy of the Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society.

The day also will feature a basket raffle, wine tastings from Bushy Run Winery, and refreshments.

This will be the battlefield’s third annual Charter Day Celebration.

It’s held to mark the day when England’s King Charles II granted a charter to William Penn in 1681.

Bushy Run is the site of a 1763 battle between British troops and Native Americans. Tickets are normally $5.
