Car wash company halts plans for North Huntingdon site
A North Carolina car wash company has cancelled plans to build at a site along Route 30 in North Huntingdon, an official said.
Boing US Holdco Inc. of Charlotte has withdrawn its application to the township zoning hearing board for a variance to permit its Take 5 Car Wash to be built about 25 feet from Route 30, said George Butler, zoning hearing board solicitor. The North Huntingdon zoning ordinance requires that buildings be constructed 50 feet from Route 30.
Brenden McCardle, an engineer representing Boing US Holdco, had agreed at the Sept. 5 zoning meeting to table the variance request until the board’s Oct. 3 meeting.
McCardle made the decision to delay the vote after board members criticized the plans for the proposed car wash closer to Route 30 than the zoning ordinance permits. To build on the property, the company would have had to demolish a vacant former medical office building that sits on the site.
A spokesperson for Boing US could not be reached for comment.
The township has two car washes along Route 30 and two more are in the planning stages.
