State police say this man is suspected of stealing checks from Mt. Pleasant Auto Sales.

State police are looking for a man they say stole checks from Mt. Pleasant Auto Sales along Route 31 in East Huntingdon and cashed a forged check for $2,970.

John R. Bandemer Jr., owner of Mt. Pleasant Auto Sales, said his signature on the check was forged and the suspect was able to cash the check at a Scottdale Bank & Trust office. An attempt to cash a second check was foiled when the suspect was asked to produce identification, Bandemer said.

Bandemer said he was showing a car to another customer who kept him occupied when the three checks were stolen from the office of the dealership. Bandemer said he suspects the “customer” was an accomplice of the thief.

“The whole thing is very odd,” Bandemer said.

Anyone with information is asked to call state police at 724-832-3288.
