Charges of child endangerment are pending against two people who police said allowed a 2-year-old boy to use a vaping device while they were baby-sitting him in St. Clair Township.

A video of the New Florence boy using the device was recorded Thursday and posted to Snapchat, Trooper Cliff Greenfield said. The device is believed to have contained nicotine, not THC, which is the psychoactive chemical found in marijuana.

The child was seen coughing in the video but didn’t show any other effects from using the device, Greenfield said.

A 17-year-old Seward girl was watching the boy at a Jan-L Street home at the time. Police said she and an 18-year-old Armagh woman allowed him to take the device from a nightstand and inhale its contents. It was unclear who took the video and posted it to Snapchat.

The child and the two females are not related, police said.

Troopers got a tip Sunday about the video through Safe2Say Something, a youth violence prevention program run by the state attorney general. The child’s parents were notified and the incident was reported to the Westmoreland County Children’s Bureau.

Police did not identify the suspects.
