City Cribs' Greensburg revitalization efforts continue with more buildings
City Cribs is continuing its revitalization of South Pennsylvania Avenue in Greensburg one building at a time.
The development group recently purchased a former art supply store for $200,000 with plans to renovate the building, add upper floors and create several spaces for tenants, said company co-owner Suzanne Ward.
Hempfield gift shop RSVP is planning to open a second location there.
“We have some other surprises coming up that we’ll be able to announce in the next month,” Ward said.
City Cribs is wrapping up work on 10 apartments on the upper levels of a building at 136 South Pennsylvania Ave. Eight one-bedroom apartments and two units with two bedrooms each have been outfitted with new appliances, gray paint and white trim.
“They’re all a little bit different, a little unique,” Ward said.
Sunlight streamed through the windows during an open house Saturday. Ward said monthly rents ranging from $1,100 to $1,400 include costs for water, sewage and garbage. All of the units include a washer and dryer and tenants have an option for an extra charge for indoor parking.
“This one’s meant to be downtown living,” she said. “You can walk everywhere.”
The units on the second floor are ready for tenants. The apartments on the third floor should be ready by April, Ward said.
The lower floors are home to two boutiques that opened recently in renovated space — Wight Elephant and The Trendy Bunny — and an office for the Downtown Greensburg Project. The renovation project cost more than $1 million for the building that sat vacant for more than a decade.
City Cribs is working on renovating a building on North Main Street across from the courthouse for a wood-fired pizza joint.
“We do feel Greensburg is the center of the county,” Ward said. “We’re hoping other investors come into Greensburg. We’re already seeing more foot traffic.”
