Historic Hanna’s Town, a recreation of Westmoreland County’s original 18th century county seat, will experience a time shift in late July as Civil War armies take over the Hempfield site.

Visitors will discover the history of the War Between the States as reenactors settle in for a weekend encampment representing soldiers and camp followers of the pivotal 19th century conflict.

Hours for the event are 9-5 July 27 and 9-3 July 28.

Battle reenactments and artillery demonstrations will be featured, along with a mock battle for children. Displays will highlight items that were used during the Civil War.

The Historic Hanna’s Town complex, located at 809 Forbes Trail Road, includes an authentic Conestoga wagon and a reconstructed frontier tavern and Revolutionary War-era fort.

The Westmoreland County Historical Society, which operates the site, recently moved its headquarters there and opened a History Education Center that includes a research library and an exhibit space.
