Hempfield students are now able to graduate with more than a high school diploma.
A new collaboration between the school and Westmoreland County Community College allows students to obtain an Associates of Arts degree from the college’s School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Public Services while still attending high school.
In order to qualify for the degree, students must complete 49% of courses at the high school while the remaining 51% can be taken through WCCC. The program can also be completed by receiving a 3 or higher on Advanced Placement (AP) tests along with a mixture of courses.
Classes must be passed with a C or higher in order to count toward the degree.
Three credit courses cost $147 while four credit classes cost $196, according to WCCC’s website.
