After being forced to take a year off because of covid concerns, Murrysville recreation officials will bring back the annual Concert in the Park, which has taken the place of Murrysville Community Day in recent years.
In a nod to continuing covid-19 developments both locally and nationally, special events and recreation program coordinator Amy Wengrzyn said there are some minor changes happening in 2021.
“We’ll be using more of the field at Murrysville Community Park than ever before this year,” Wengrzyn said. “Things have been kind of packed-in in past year, so we’re utilizing some more space this time around.”
The celebration, which opens at 3 p.m. Aug. 14, will close with a fireworks show at dusk and will feature a day of live music, food and fun.
“Early on, we still didn’t know what was going to happen (with covid restrictions),” Wengrzyn. “We weren’t sure if we’d need to use two fields.”
With more and more public events happening, recreation director Carly Greene said the most recent challenge has been finding available food trucks.
“A lot of them are busy and booked up,” she said. “There are a lot more places now that are holding food truck events or having them set up in the parking lot.”
Onstage, Concert in the Park will feature:
• The Adorabulls (4:15 p.m.), a group which bills itself as “four dudes who take cover songs on weird instruments to new heights.”
• Hoffman Road Band (5:15 p.m.), an acoustic rock group.
• The Sweaty Already String Band (6:30 p.m.) , a Pittsburgh-area bluegrass band that blends classic traditional bluegrass with original tunes and some unexpected covers.
• Nied’s Hotel Band (8 p.m.), a Pittsburgh-based rock band voted “Best Bar Band” in the 2016 Pittsburgh Magazine Reader Poll.
“We’re just excited to have live music again and have people get out and enjoy the day with friends and family,” Greene said.
