A Derry man was arrested this week, accused of assaulting and harassing an ex-girlfriend twice on Tuesday.

State police arrested Dewayne Mack, 29, on charges of burglary, criminal trespass, simple assault, harassment and strangulation. Police say he assaulted and choked his ex-girlfriend inside her Hempfield Township apartment Tuesday morning.

Trooper Jake Goga alleges in court documents that Mack’s ex-girlfriend refused to allow Mack to enter her apartment and locked the door on Snowshoe Lane about 7 a.m. However, police said Mack removed a portable air conditioner, entered the apartment through the opening and punched and choked the victim.

Goga said the victim, who was caring for a 6-month-old infant at the time, was able to break free and get help. Mack also is charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

In a separate complaint, Mack is accused by Derry Police with assaulting the same woman at 11 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of Ameriserve Bank in Derry. He is charged with simple assault and harassment in that case, according to online dockets.

According to police reports filed before District Judge Mark Bilik, when Mack was located and arrested Wednesday by borough police, he denied assaulting the victim, but admitted breaking her cell phone.

Mack could not be reached for comment and an attorney was not listed in court documents.

Mack was released Thursday on $20,000 unsecured bond, according to court dockets.
