A telephone complaint to North Huntingdon Police about a man “acting strange” inside the bathroom of a Sheetz store Thursday resulted in the arrest of a man who, police say, had seven bricks of heroin in his pocket.
Dirk M. Mayernick, 44, of Huntingdon Village in East Huntingdon was arrested about 5:30 p.m. on charges of manufacturing, delivery and possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after the incident at the Sheetz store located at East Ronda Court, near the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
Officer Tom Harris reported in court documents filed before District Judge Wayne Gongaware that police received a telephone call that Mayernick was acting strangely inside the men’s bathroom where he was moaning, “leaning up against a wall,” and paper was strewn around the floor around him.
When officers arrived, Harris said, Mayernick had left the bathroom and was walking toward the parking lot, where he was questioned. Harris said Mayernick started shaking and “appeared nervous.”
When questioned, Harris said Mayernick admitted having syringes and pulled two from his right front shirt pocket.
“I asked him if that was all and he said, ‘No, I’m loaded’,” Harris quoted Mayernick as telling him.
Harris reported in court documents that Mayernick then reached in his right front pants pocket and pulled out a large quantity of heroin.
Harris said police confiscated 345 individual stamp bags of heroin, which is just under seven bricks of heroin. A brick is 50 stamp bags.
Harris said 20 bags were marked “Vicke” and 325 were marked “You Tube.” The heroin had a street value of approximately $3,500.
Mayernick was ordered held in the Westmoreland County Prison after failing to post $100,000 bond. He faces a preliminary hearing before Gongaware on Aug. 28.
