A Greensburg man wanted for two months on charges of duping patrons at two city bars into buying his large-screen television then running off with the cash was jailed Sunday on robbery and theft charges.
Charles W. Brant, 43, was arraigned before District Judge Jason Buczak on two counts each of robbery and theft after the alleged incidents at Point Bar and Grill at 333 East Otterman St. and the White Horse Tavern, 528 Mount Pleasant St. Brant was ordered held in the county prison after failing to post $15,000 bond.
On Nov. 18, Brant walked into the White Horse Tavern and told a patron he was having money trouble and was willing to sell his 55-inch television for $50, Greensburg Officer Regina McAtee reported in court documents. The victim told police they agreed on $45 but, when they went outside where Brant said the television was in his car, Brant fled with the cash.
The same day, Brant pulled off the same scheme at the Point Bar and Grill, McAtee reported.
“(The victim) showed (Brant) the $50 and (Brant) grabbed the money out of his hand, got into an older model gray car and drove off,” McAtee said.
