A Latrobe man is accused of throwing rocks at city police as they investigated an assault and loitering complaint this month.

Police charged Glenn D. Jones Jr., 21, with propulsion of missiles on a roadway, harassment, loitering and prowling, possession of marijuana, public drunkenness and simple assault.

The victim, who lives on Miller Street, reported that he was preparing for a fishing excursion when he noticed a light bulb was missing on his porch, Officer Zachary Lukon said. After he replaced the bulb, the victim told police the replacement bulb was missing a short time later and he went outside to investigate.

The victim alleged Jones, whom he did not know, walked onto the porch and was told to get off the property.

Jones is accused of picking up a plastic chair and throwing it at the victim, striking him in the arm. Jones then fled and the victim called police.

Lukon said, when he and Officer Jason Myers arrived to search for the suspect, someone threw multiple “tennis ball-sized” rocks in their direction.

Multiple other police units responded. Jones eventually was found hiding near the intersection of Washington and Alexandria streets. The victim identified him as the suspect.

When Jones was apprehended, he suffered an injury to his face that required treatment, police reported.

Police said a small amount of marijuana was found in his book bag and he smelled of alcohol.

Jones was served the complaint via mailed summons, according to court dockets. A telephone number for Jones was not listed in court documents and he could not be reached for comment.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled July 20 before Unity District Judge Michael Mahady.
