A person who was at Belle Vernon Area High School’s graduation ceremony last week has tested positive for the coronavirus, according to district officials.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent Michele Dowell said those in attendance Wednesday wore masks and maintained social distance from each other. Graduation for the Class of 2020 took place at James Weir Stadium in Rostraver.

A livestream video of commencement shows white chairs for graduates spaced a distance apart on the football field and a sparse crowd in the stands opposite the camera. At the end, some graduates gathered together with their arms around each other and sang the alma mater.

It was unclear from Dowell’s letter if the positive case was in a graduate or spectator.
