Contrary to prior reports, Norwin School District officials say there has not been a confirmed case of the coronavirus in the district.

In an updated public statement late Friday afternoon, Norwin School District Superintendent Jeff Taylor said he was informed by emergency managers that reports of a coronavirus case in North Huntingdon were mistaken.

In an earlier message Friday, the district announced a confirmed case had been reported to district officials.

So far, there are four confirmed cases of the virus in Westmoreland County, according to the state health department.

State officials have not released any details about those four cases.

Allegheny County added 10 new cases on Friday, bringing the total there to 28, according to the county health department. Five are hospitalized and the rest are in isolation at home.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 83 additional cases Friday afternoon, bringing the state’s total to 268.

The increasing cases in Pennsylvania prompted Gov. Tom Wolf to issue some sweeping orders during the past week. On March 13, he shut down schools for 10 business days. On Thursday, he ordered all “non-life-sustaining” businesses to close physical locations under threat of “enforcement actions.”
