The most recent state data shows 317 people in the Murrysville area have had confirmed cases of coronavirus since the start of the pandemic in March, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
The area registered an additional 50 confirmed cases in the past seven days’ worth of reported test results. It is the second week in a row the area has seen an increase of 50 or more cases.
The health department on Monday released the most recent figures for the three ZIP codes that comprise the region. The health department keeps a count of cases and test results for communities based on ZIP codes.
The largest number of cases, 163, are from residents in the 15668 ZIP code, which is strictly Murrysville. That represents a 27% increase over last week (128 confirmed cases).
The 15632 ZIP code, which encompasses Export, much of eastern Murrysville and a slice of Washington Township, shows 106 confirmed cases, up an additional ten.
And there have been 48 confirmed cases in the 15626 ZIP code, which includes Delmont along with small slivers of Murrysville and Salem.
There have been 4,341 negative test results in those areas, figures show. Of the full number of tests administered, 4,658, the region has seen just under 7% come back positive.
Across its five buildings, the Franklin Regional School District has seen six cases of covid-19 since the school year began, none of which caused schools to close.
According to the state’s covid-19 tracking website, in Westmoreland County there have been 5,128 confirmed cases, 1,138 probable cases, 57,800 negative tests and 136 deaths since the outbreak began.
Despite a small spike in late June and early July, the county’s daily confirmed case counts had remained relatively low until a sharp uptick beginning in late September. That number went back and forth, but has remained much larger than in the pandemic’s early stages, reaching an all-time high of 189 positive cases reported on Veteran’s Day last week. That number was nearly reached again with 187 cases reported Saturday.
