A Ligonier man died at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center in Johnstown after a Sunday evening crash in Westmoreland County, according to Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees.

Benjamin A. Leshow, 28, was driving a Dodge Ram south on Route 271 in Ligonier Township just after 6:30 p.m. when he lost control of the truck, hit several utility poles and overturned in Mill Creek. A neighbor pulled Leshow from the wreckage in about 2 or 3 feet of water and moved him to the bank, Lees said Tuesday.

He was taken to the Johnstown hospital where he was pronounced dead in the emergency department at 8:04 p.m., Lees said. Leshow’s death was ruled an accidental drowning after a Monday autopsy.

Lees said speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash. Toxicology results are pending.

J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements. Leshow earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture management and rural development from West Virginia University.

He had just been named superintendent of the Rolling Rock Club golf course, according to his obituary. Visitation is scheduled for 5-8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. A funeral service will be held there at 10 a.m. Friday.
