Westmoreland County on Thursday added 88 additional covid cases and 7 deaths, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported.
The newly-reported deaths now bring the county’s death toll to 586.
Of the 88 new cases reported, 58 are confirmed and 30 are probable. The total number of cases in Westmoreland County now stands at 24,456 with 17,660 confirmed and 6,796 probable since the first cases were reported in March. There have been 80,535 people in the county who have tested negative for the virus.
The state Department of Health defines a probable case as one in which a patient has “a positive serology (antibody) test and either covid-19 symptoms or a high-risk exposure” to someone who has been confirmed to have coronavirus.
Reported cases have declined recently with daily reported cases under 100 for five of the last ten days.
The county’s seven-day average is 104 cases and the county’s seven-day total cases of 725. These figures are the lowest the county has seen since Nov. 11, when the seven-day average was 96 and seven-day total cases was 670.
According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, 149 Westmoreland County residents are hospitalized for covid-19 (up one from Wednesday), ten are in intensive care units and six are on ventilators.
