Covid spread slowing in North Huntingdon, Iwin area

The weekly spread of covid in the North Huntingdon-North Irwin-Irwin area has slowed to a trickle, with just 15 new cases from May 24 to June 1, according to state Department of Health data released Tuesday.

There was only a .4% increase in the rate of new covid cases from May 24 to June 1, the lowest rate of new cases — week over week — since before cases starting to rise in October.

There have been 3,294 confirmed positive cases of covid in the four ZIP cods covering North Huntingdon, Irwin and North Irwin, since the pandemic hit the region in March 2020.

There were 1,699 probable but not confirmed cases as of June 1, just 12 more from May 24. The four ZIP codes did not include parts of North Huntingdon bordering White Oak and Trafford, but do contain parts of Hempfield and Penn townships.

There were 13,006 negative test results, 83 more than on May 24. Residents who feel ill may have had multiple negative test results.

In the North Huntingdon-Irwin-North Irwin 15642 ZIP code, there were 3,183 confirmed cases, an increase of just 15 from May 24. There were 1,661 probable cases, 12 more than May 24; and 12,600 negative test results, an increase of 78 since May 24.

The Westmoreland City 15692 ZIP code had 67 confirmed covid cases and 22 probable cases, the same as May 24; and 240 negative test results, just two more than the previous week.

In the Ardara 15615 ZIP code, there were 27 confirmed cases, eight probable and 82 negative test results, the same as May 24.

The Larimer 15647 ZIP code had 17 confirmed cases and eight probable cases, the same as last week, and 84 negative test results, two more than last week.
