Four people were injured Sunday evening after the vehicle they were traveling in crashed into a tree and overturned along Twin Lakes Road in Unity.

One motorist was thrown from their vehicle and three others had to be freed by emergency crews, according to Tom Schultheis, emergency management coordinator for Unity Township and a Lloydsville firefighter.

One of the motorists was taken by ambulance to a hospital and three others were flown by medical helicopter for treatment at a trauma center, he said.

Trooper Steve Limani said the vehicle was speeding north on Twin Lakes Road when it hit a group of trees. The driver was 18 years old and those inside ranged in age from 15 to 24. All had serious injuries, he said.

A section of Twin Lakes Road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

The crash occurred just before 6:30 p.m., according to a Westmoreland County 911 dispatcher.

The vehicle crashed near the intersection of Joyce Lane, which borders a parking lot across the road from the main part of Twin Lakes Park.

Lloydsville Volunteer Fire Department was among emergency crews that responded.
