A crash on Route 30 in North Huntingdon Monday evening apparently was connected to an attempt by police to arrest a man who they say sold drugs to an undercover officer, according to court papers.

The undercover officer requested 10 bricks of heroin/fentanyl from Demiyr T. Johnson, 27, in exchange for $1,450 during a drug buy in a Route 30 parking lot around 7 p.m., police said. After the exchange, the undercover officer alerted police cars parked in the area that the suspect was leaving the meeting spot in a Dodge Ram.

When police following the pickup came to the intersection of Route 30 and Rocky Road, they found a wrecked Subaru and a person lying outside of it in the intersection. Johnson was seen running along Route 30 near Ronda Court and was apprehended. His pickup was disabled on the highway from the collision, police said.

Authorities said they seized additional drugs, the buy money and $800 from Johnson, who has Braddock and Ambridge addresses in court records.

State troopers are doing a crash reconstruction. Johnson is charged with drug offenses, reckless endangerment, evading arrest on foot and related offenses. He was denied bail and was being held at the Westmoreland County Prison.

A Dec. 5 preliminary hearing is set. Johnson did not have an attorney listed in online court records.

At least one person was taken to a hospital from the crash scene for treatment, according to Westmoreland 911 dispatchers.
